2014 Woven Relations: Baskets from the Ralph T. Coe Center Collection

Woven Relations: Baskets from the Ralph T. Coe Center Collection exhibition, August 19 to December 19, 2014 and originally shown at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, NY as Plain & Fancy: Native American Splint Baskets in 2013, was broadened to include additional baskets from outside the Northeast—all from the Ralph T. Coe Center Collection. Baskets, although often treated as a craft, are a high art form requiring great skill and patience to create.

Please enjoy the roundtable discussion link, which was held on August 19 moderated by Bruce Bernstein, PhD, Ralph T. Coe Center Executive Director. The Participants included three basket makers: Kelly Church, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Ojibwe’ Theresa Secord, Penobscot; and Ronnie-Leigh Goeman, Onondaga Nation/Eel Clan, as well as Eva Fognell, Curator at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
