Mario Scacheri was the Camera Editor of the New York World Telegram and the author, alongside his wife Mabel Delameter, of a number of books including The Fun of Photography and Indians Today. It was for the latter publication that this photograph of the potter Maria Martinez was likely taken. They wrote Indians Today after spending months traveling in New Mexico in 1934. Scacheri was born in Milan, Italy in 1840 and died in New York at the young age of 42.
